Tired of Fighting

Write Side of the Road

(Hopefully, this is my LAST pandemic post)

It seems like we humans have done nothing but fight and judge for the last twenty years, and I am sick and tired of it.

Political Correctness has run a muck. Though after some research, I wonder if it was ever a good thing. Turns out, according to Britannica, “The term first appeared in Marxist-Leninist vocabulary following the Russian Revolution of 1917. At that time it was used to describe adherence to the policies and principles of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (that is, the party line).”

But today’s “political correctness” is dividing and is an excuse to point fingers.

The 24-hour news cycle certainly doesn’t help, nor does social media. We’ve mistaken “journalism” with “factual news.” Journalism, much to the general population’s disadvantage, includes “feature writing,” which has NOTHING to do with facts. Think the Weekly World News Tabloid of…

  1. I understand that this is a repost but as you reposted it, I assume you share the authors opinion and thus I present my opinion to you.

Like many terms in the 21st century, “politically correct” has lost its value in my lexicon. Too many people use it incorrectly and even more people accept the incorrect applications. Further, stating that one doesn’t listen to “not a one of them” (regarding journalists) and then quoting one in the very next sentence is paradoxical (not working for a media organization doesn’t exempt one from being a journalist when all they write are opinion pieces). It’s a paradox that Americans of a specific mindset adhere to vehemently. All journalists are liars. Except for our journalists.

It’s an idiotic mindset, of that everybody is in agreement. Unfortunately, half of the population of the country (world?) are only in agreement that the other half are the ones doing it. And vice versa. People have become incapable of separating their feelings from their worldview.

Or have they? Perhaps the majority have never been able to see over their hedges. If they were, dozens of empires wouldn’t have collapsed upon themselves in waves of corruption and laxity. If this is simply the human condition and the masses are incapable of rising to any occasion no matter the cost, then why should the people who can care for them? Perhaps this is the impetus of corruption. The intelligentsia understand all too well that the average person is easy to exploit and contrary to what our parents taught us, it is right to exploit them.

    1. You make some interesting points. Being unfamiliar with most specific journalists, I may have got in over my head posting it details and all. I reposted because I agree with the writer’s general sentiment, that the media as a group seem to revel in reporting on hate. Too many journalists bait people and groups against one another, continuously adding gasoline to the fire, because hate sells. (“Good news is no news.”) I’ve read an article or two about events I observed myself and hardly recognized what the writer described, so when I read something infuriating about something I DIDN’T observe, why should I believe it? Frankly, all the spin makes me nauseous, and since I don’t have the time to research the truth about every story dealing with things I can’t change anyway, I want to focus on what I CAN do. I doubt I will be “part of the solution” (too big a task), but being an influence for good wherever I am. There are enough people tearing each other apart, and I don’t want to get sucked into being one of them. I’m like Lisa, tired of the fighting. (And I really don’t want to fight about THAT. 😉 )

      1. The term revel is inappropriate. I don’t watch the news at all but I don’t fault them because they’re simply giving their customers what they want. As you said if people didn’t want to read about or watch videos about violence, hate, and death, they wouldn’t produce it. İf we want to live in a capitalist society (and I am making an assumption that we do, given the alternatives) this is just the way it has to be. İt’s up to individuals to elevate themselves above the grist and not partake in trivial, soul killing mediums.
